Rose Tremain: "Trespass".

Hello and Welcome to the first post of my new blog .

I have another blog about cat minding but its straying more and more into other territories so I may start some new blogs .

In fact more and more I find myself Tweeting and Twittering rather than blogging so I don't quite know how this will pan out but its worth a try as few Twit-Types seem to read books . I'm sure they do but I find it hard to find them , and they don't find me . Maybe on here?

So my plan with this blog is to read some books mostly during the night and to write about them as I read. Maybe I will find the courage to review them , which I don't do on my Cat Blog assuming cat people are not keen on the crossover.

In the early hours of this morning -2am- 4am - and then 7am I read Trespass by Rose Tremain and then finally stayed in bed late to finish it - it being Bank Holiday weekend .
I loved this book as I have loved much of Rose Tremain's other work across the years , and was thrilled when I found it in the library last week having thought I would have to buy the hardback copy or wait until it appeared in paperback .

Tremain draws us in from the start with her observations on Anthony Verey . I have a feeling that I was caught up in wanting to pull on that black tapestry thread long before I took the book from the shelf last week and have a sense that I read a few pages of the novel in some initial form perhaps in a Sunday colour supplement some weeks ago- could this be or have I dreamed this? Although no longer a frequent visitor to France I know Paris and some of the French paysage and the book is wonderful in its evocation of all that is French . It makes me glad that I dont have a second home in the countryside nor have I ever stayed in one though with the werewithall I certainly would have done.

Most of us however know more about intrafamilial sexual abuse than we care to admit either from direct experience or recognising some aspect of it lurking beneath the surface in our locality or in the families of our schoolfriends or neighbours. Rose Tremain brings the relationship between brother and sister to a ghastly and yet (for them) in many ways perfect conclusion demonstrating a deep understanding of this complex issue. And of course there is more, so much more. The relationships between mother and son , the other brother-sister pairing and that between Veronica and Kitty and Anthony and his lovers which I havent yet made my mind up about .
I loved this book and it certainly  kept me awake.

Have you read it yet?
What did you think?

Have you read any other of Tremain's books?
